Located on the outskirts of Ulm’s centre, the Zeughaus (armoury) is one of city’s largest ensembles. Although not officially mentioned till 1433, the facility most likely dates back to city growth that took place in the beginning of the 14th century. Comprehensive construction works to extend the building complex were carried out in both the 16th and 17th centuries, resulting in a formidable city armoury.
The plaster façade consists of pseudo brickwork and window stone settings typical for the era while the barque and renaissance motifs of the portals are particularly impressive. The Gewölbe des Löwenbaus (Vault of the Lion’s Den) is preserved within and can be used for public events.
